I committed a wedding

Fifteen years since I photographed my sister’s wedding and promised myself I’d never do one again, I ended up shooting one. It turned out pretty nice despite barely sleeping the night before. What I do enjoy about weddings is that everyone is well dressed and in a good mood, so it’s hard not to get good photos (unless you mess up the camera settings). I have worked with the couple professionally before, so I was pretty sure it would turn out okay.

My style is very documentary as I try to be a fly on the wall and go unnoticed during the day. It’s very difficult inside a quiet church when all I can think of is the clickety noises from my camera as I shoot. (I once got a noise complaint from a spectator after photographing a concert with a violin player, so I’ve become very aware of the sound.)

The couple runs a kayaking place (Mad Goats) by the Sjoa river, so they naturally wanted to some photos by the river. Some friendly kayakers came by.

The wedding party was held in a beautiful farm place just across the street from the kayak. Challenging light for photography inside the barn, so we just crank the ISO.

The bride’s dad’s band played live music for us, and the bride surprised everyone by singing Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers” for her husband.
