Norgestour

I photographed the “Norgestour” beach volley tournament here in Oslo two weekends ago for Oslo Beach Volley Club, and it’s (as always) lots of fun. Three days in the sand with shifting weather, but the last day of the finals was pretty sweet.

Some of Norway’s best players gather here to fight it out. The very best are too busy competing in international tournaments, but the absolute best Anders Mol took it easy with a shoulder injury, and was spectating and cheering on his little sister, Melina Mol, who won the tournament with partner Julia Thelle.

Håvard Fredwall (who’s become sort of a Instagram phenomenon with silly volleyball related short clips) is actually a very decent player, and won the men’s tournament with partner Christian Ruud (who also won the previous Norgestour tournament with a different partner).

I photographed about 7000 images during the three days, and delivered about 900 to the organizers, which is a little more than my usual 10% of total. I tried to to a lot of close-ups portraits this weekend with my 70-200mm, but I miss out of much of the defensive action as I can’t focus fast enough, so I’ll likely go back to my trusty Sigma 24-105mm and do a little bit of cropping instead. Or maybe just finally invest in a Canon R6 as I’m still using my workhorse Canon 5Dmk3.
